It was 2009 when they started to write their own songs. Some of the songs were based on some of their personal lives and their experiences as a group and each song they release to the public, never fails to be a hit thus creating many more opportunities for themselves like mainstream media features and guesting.

They decided to change their name as Almost Satellite, last 2010, in accordance with their current band genre and existing band members. Ever since then, in every event they get to perform in, they have been known in doing a great job in bringing the house down.

Their music is labeled as post-rock-alternative – a sub-genre of rock music. Characterized by the influence and use of instruments associated with guitar rhythms as melodic and textures, with post drum and bass style, and high vocal pitch and scream.

Almost Satellite’s current line-up consists of Tyrone Encabo (vocals), Bam Roa (guitar), Tatski Lagrosas (bass), Jopax Arendain (guitar), and Jedi Dela Cruz (drums).

November 2011, they finished recording their debut album “The Final Cut” with 8 original singles and 2 music videos of their current hit tracks – “As You Sleep” and “Sleepless Streets”.

Witness as they take the stage and launch their first album, “The Final Cut”, on Saturday, January 28, 2012 at Punchbowl-Karomata together with the best Cagayan de Oro and Iligan indie bands. Show starts 8pm.

For those who don’t watch GMA7 or don’t have time to watch all the local television shows, here’s a quick description of the show ‘Protégé‘… Protégé is a Reality-Talent Search with 10 legendary music icons grooming their own bets to be music’s biggest phenomenon.

The 10 legendary mentors are: Janno Gibbs, Jaya, Jay-R, Rachelle Ann Go, Aiza Seguerra, Joey Generoso of Side A, Imelda Papin, Claire dela Fuente, Rey Valera, and Gloc 9.

Guess what? Fellow Kagay-anon Krizza Neri made it there and she is now dubbed as the RNB Sistah. And her mentor? Is none other than the award winning singer-songwriter/actress, Aiza Seguerra!

Not your usual street food though as Cagayan de Oro Chefs Angelo Ongchua, Momon Fortich, Ryan Rivero, and Cagayan de Oro’s famous female artist, Tatum Tan, were the ones who prepared the food last Saturday, January 8, 2011, at the Meet Shop (part of what is formerly known as Consuelo’s Steakhouse along Corrales Avenue, Cagayan de Oro City) for the MINI STREET FOOD FESTIVAL.

Meet Shop Cagayan de oro was packed that night with people of different races and professions to witness this first time event organized by the above mentioned. The CDOBloggers were there to document the said event too. We tried all the food, and they are just superb! Here are some photos of the event:

After all the picture taking and interviews we just couldn’t hold back any longer, we had to try the food ourselves. Prices were only between 30-40 pesos, very affordable and delicious! Presenting the food that was served that night:

Unityfest is an annual gathering of Cagayan de Oro’s finest rock bands. Now on its 7th year, it keeps getting louder and louder!

Featuring CDO’s top rock bands as of latest: Teachers Stand Together, Picking Up Carrots, The Superflirts, Hoodswhite,  Almost Satellite, Calypso, Eula, Red Whisky, Poetry of Water and KBC.

We will also be featuring Cebu-based Campbell, Manila’s Picturefilled, and Iligan City’s pride Taciturn!!!

Mark the date! August 28, 2010 (that’s a Saturday) 7pm at the Capitol Grounds Tennis Court, Velez Street, Cagayan de Oro. Admission is only 60 pesos!

C.H.A.M.P., Kagay-anon’s Hip-hop singer/rapper, was born February 11, 1985 at Manila, he studied grade school there and moved to the south, Cagayan de Oro City where he currently lives up until now.

3^rd Grade, he got his first ever tape from his older brother – The 2 Live Crew – which ignited his love for hip-hop. At an early age he would just sit at the side and would write poems and rhymes about how he felt and what was happening around him. From then on he got exposed to more rappers around the world which he looked up to, namely: Notorious B.I.G., Ice Cube, Dr. Dre, Jay Z., Rakim, and Kanye West.

He got his big break last year (2009) for Community to B-Roc of Turbulence Productions. Then he met Bojam, also last year, who gave him a chance to join FlipMusic Records. It was then they recorded We Made It – (listen to the song below – just press play).

His first, yet biggest, performance was last year also for LDP (LyricallyDerangedPoet) Defense Concert at the Music Museum.

CHAMP had also worked with local Filipino artists namely Nimbus 9, Viktoria, Ron Thug, Luke Mejares, Pow Chavez, Mista Blaze, and Kane.

He’s now almost done with all the tracks for his upcoming album that would be released earlier next year. Watch out for it!

On August 22, 2010 they will have a gig at Damosa Gateway, Market Basket for Musika Del Sur’s Music Festival 2010 together with Cagayan de Oro artists KBC and Gasulina, Davao artists Skates, Jad Montenegro, Lost Tribe, and Comrads, Black Dice of Gensan and Gravity 8 of Tagum will also perform.

Oh, btw, he’s also a regular at Saturday Night Live presents Open Mic. Gigs are still ongoing, Saturdays – starts at 8-9PM. Kitakits!

We were given the chance to experience one of their 6 newly opened KTV rooms which is the Hippie themed room for a couple of hours. Aside from munching on the delicious food that was served, we enjoyed singing and listening to ourselves from their newly setup sound system too.

I personally love the MJ room, hippie with a huge peace sign on the ceiling, and the hiphop room which has this huge graffiti on the wall. Cool concept. Metal room is cool too. I think everything is. Below are some pictures of the rooms.

They are having the rooms rented for 100-130/hr only. Depending on which room you choose. All rooms has newly setup sound system and updated song books. A must try!
